This premium pair of rock glasses, adorned with dynamic depictions of a graceful phoenix and majestic dragon soaring across the sky, was crafted by designated Master of Traditional Craft, Fukuda Yoshinori. Rendered in the kinrande style of Kutani ware, the hand-drawn and painted pieces showcase the delicate yet bold brushwork, along with layered pigments that create a striking three-dimensional effect. Intricate linework in gleaming gold provides contrast and catches the light with every movement. In Japanese culture, dragons are believed to bestow blessings and good fortune, while the phoenix is said to bring love and happiness.
Widely celebrated in Japan and abroad, Fukuda Yoshinori has received numerous honors at major art exhibitions. His mastery of traditional Kutani porcelain styles, including akae, Yoshidaya, and Ko-Kutani, demonstrates a broad technical range and a refined artistic sensibility.
Best suited for beer, shochu, or spirits on the rocks, these glasses fit comfortably in the hand. Enjoy as a glass for relaxing moments and as a work of art. These glasses are designed to enhance quiet moments of reflection as well as celebratory gatherings. Origin
Kutani ware is a traditional Japanese porcelain from the Kaga region in Ishikawa Prefecture, with a history spanning over 350 years. Known for its vibrant overglaze enamel designs and use of five signature colors, known as Kutani gosai—navy blue, red, purple, green, and yellow pigments. This timeless craft has continuously evolved through generations of artisans who balance innovation with a deep respect for tradition.
Kutani ware exhibits a diverse range of distinctive styles, shaped by evolving artistic tastes over the centuries. Styles such as ko-Kutani, with its bold colors, geometric patterns, and painterly detail, and akae-saibyo, marked by ultra-fine red lines. Many pieces feature traditional Japanese motifs, such as kacho (flowers and birds) and sansui (landscapes), offering a timeless glimpse into the beauty of nature and the seasons.
