Inspired by Japanese floral chintz fabric, known as hanasarasa in Japanese, this rectangular sauce plate features charming floral designs. Blooming flowers and winding arabesque vines sweep across the piece, complemented by endearing hand-painted details such as dots, hearts, and a delicate red border along the edge of the rim. Made with a glossy, transparent glaze in cheerful yet dreamy hues, creating a soft, luminous effect that enhances the whimsical motifs. The delicate colors accentuate the bright, glossy white of the porcelain base, adding an enchanting sense of playfulness to the piece.
Its flat, shallow surface and gently upturned short ends make it well suited to a dab of soy sauce or wasabi, a small sweet served with tea, or a few slices of Japanese pickles. Beyond the dining table, this charming piece makes a delightful trinket holder for little treasures, adding a touch of storybook whimsy wherever it is placed.

Maker / Brand
Crafted by a father, mother, and daughter trio, Ginshu Kiln is now in its fourth generation, offering a fresh take on overglaze painting and breathing new life into Kutani ware. Founded during the Meiji era by first-generation kiln master Bunkichi, a renowned figure in Kutani ware, the kiln is known for its nuanced, muted hues and whimsical motifs. Each piece is meticulously hand-painted, giving Ginshu Kiln’s overglaze decoration its distinctive warmth and character.
Origin
Kutani ware is a traditional Japanese porcelain from the Kaga region in Ishikawa Prefecture, with a history spanning over 350 years. Known for its vibrant overglaze enamel designs and use of five signature colors, known as Kutani gosai—navy blue, red, purple, green, and yellow pigments. This timeless craft has continuously evolved through generations of artisans who balance innovation with a deep respect for tradition.
Kutani ware exhibits a diverse range of distinctive styles, shaped by evolving artistic tastes over the centuries. Styles such as ko-Kutani, with its bold colors, geometric patterns, and painterly detail, and akae-saibyo, marked by ultra-fine red lines. Many pieces feature traditional Japanese motifs, such as kacho (flowers and birds) and sansui (landscapes), offering a timeless glimpse into the beauty of nature and the seasons.
